It has been a total mystery to me how the Duke of York has continued paying for his palatial 30-room home, Royal Lodge.

After he was forced to step down from royal duties in late 2019 and thus lost any Palace and taxpayer money, it was the late Queen who continued funding him.

When Charles became King, he continued paying the reported £1m living allowance to his younger brother and a further seven-figure sum for his police protection.

Then, in an attempt to save the vast costs associated with his brother, the Duke of York, the King asked Andrew to move into the smaller Frogmore Cottage.

But in what has been dubbed the 'siege of Royal Lodge', Andrew dug his heels in and refused to budge. King Charles finally lost patience and last summer, I understand, cut off all his cash.
