TBILISI on a budget

Go luxe for less in Georgia's cool capital

Having flown under the radar for decades, Tbilisi's appeal has gone mainstream thanks to a handful of new direct flight routes from the UK. Culturally rich and full of lavish restaurants, sublime architecture and plenty of art spaces and museums, it's hard not to fall for the Georgian capital's charms. What's more, it's staggeringly easy on the pocket, with plenty of sophisticated boutique hotels that rarely surpass £100 a night.

Get your bearings

Tbilisi is a brilliant place to explore on foot. Start with Mtatsminda Park, which towers over the city on a mini mountain. Accessible from a handful of hiking trails or a funicular ride, the park boasts panoramic views and is a great way for new visitors to the city to get their bearings. Once at the top, expect to be greeted by a retro-style Ferris wheel, bright pink candyfloss and funfair-esque vibes.

Afterwards, get lost among the large-scale colourful murals and quirky buildings of Old Town Tbilisi, many of which have crumbling facades and old-school wooden balconies.
