The GMB star opens up about dealing with loss, being a single parent and her secret 'lifesaver'

She's endured a harrowing few years, but Kate Garraway has continued to amaze her friends, family and the public with her compassion, strength and fighting spirit.

Eighteen months on from the tragic death of husband Derek Draper, Kate has been open about dealing with her crippling loss and navigating her way to a new normal.

The Good Morning Britain star looked happy and relaxed while on a recent family beach break to her beloved Cornwall along with daughter Darcey, 19 and 15-year-old son Billy.

But Kate, 58, admitted that the trip, which had been an annual family tradition for years, was 'bittersweet' five months after Derek's passing.

She said: 'Feels like old times with hands on an @volvocars wheel, although bittersweet as this would have been the perfect car to carry Derek in and out of with plenty of room for a hoist and wheelchair in the back.'

Staying present

The GMB presenter reveals that while trying to come to terms with her grief, she's still determined to make the most of life.

'I'm just taking everything a step at a time,' she says. 'Just trying to enjoy myself in the moment really. I think that's the main thing.'
