Kate Garraway opens up about why now is the 'hardest part' of grief and the struggles of single parenting

They say time is a healer, but just a year on from her husband passing, Good Morning Britain star Kate Garraway admits, 'This is the hardest part of grieving,' adding, 'There are so many moments where I just think, “Derek, where are you?”'

Derek Draper sadly passed away in January 2024 following a heart attack, after four years of battling complications from Covid-19. And while the ever-jovial Kate, 57, who shared Darcey, 19, and Billy, 15, with Derek, still looks on the bright side, saying, 'I can begin to see a new positivity for the three of us,' there's no denying the heartache she feels every day.

'Grief is such a strange thing - it's so final and complete,' she continues. 'But somehow your brain tricks you, and there are moments you forget and it bites you on the butt.' And speaking about her regrets, Kate says, 'I think if I have any regrets, it's every single minute that I didn't spend holding his hand.'
