Three years after they upped sticks from Kensington Palace and relocated to a cosy cottage on the Windsor estate, the Wales family could be on the move again, this time to a grand mansion that has played a part in royal history.

The Prince and Princess of Wales are believed to be considering a move from their relatively modest Adelaide Cottage to Fort Belvedere, a Gothic Revival-style property also on the Windsor estate that was once the home of William’s great-great-uncle King Edward VIII.

After moving there in 1930, when he was the Prince of Wales, Edward entertained American Wallis Simpson at the Fort. And it’s where, as King six years later, he signed abdication documents, giving up the throne so he could marry Wallis.
