Our retriever Syd is a committed tail-wagger. Even when he stands right in front of me and barks ferociously, he wags madly. This is his way of saying, "In case you think I'm serious, I'm not. Just pulling your leg."

It's very difficult for dogs to play tricks on their owners because their tails, rather gorgeously, give them away.

This has made me think what a pity humans don't have tails. There are the more obvious advantages.
