Councillor Kerre has a nice ring to it reckons this wannabe public servant

I've been a ratepayer for nigh on 30 years. And I'm ashamed to say, during that time, I've thought very little about my rates, and where they went and how they were spent.

I couldn't even tell you who I voted for when I was living in the People's Republic of Grey Lynn, which is not to say I didn't vote. I always voted. When people have died and are dying still for the right to vote, it seems wrong not to. But once I'd popped my forms in the mailbox, I promptly forgot about my local body councillor until local body elections rolled around three years later.
