Make Every Day A Learning Day

Learning something new exercises our brains and makes us happier, say experts. Here are a few ideas to inspire you...

Make Every Day A Learning Day

Take A Great Photo With Your Phone

It's all about 'the light', says photographer Lara Jane Thorpe (larajanethorpephotography.co.uk/). "When the light is soft (between sunrise and 9am or 3pm until sunset) is best. Using the flash, on the other hand, causes harsh lines and contrasting shadow and is never flattering." If you want your subject to stand out, choose a plain background or a contrasting colour, Lara advises. "You will only get better by taking lots of photos, so start snapping every day!"

Small accomplishments, such as S unblocking a sink, can be as satisfying as big endeavours, such as learning to play a musical instrument. Attempting something new might be a bit challenging at first but, as you improve, your confidence will grow, you'll become more accomplished, and you'll have fun!

Tackle Basic DIY Jobs

Take away the fear, says DIY expert Jo Behari (jobehari.co.uk). Make use of free online resources, and get skilled friends to show you - rather than doing it for you. Plan and prep properly, get the right tools and materials, and take your time. If you never try, you'll never learn! Jo suggests resealing a bath as a simple, satisfying, starter job.

TIP: An easy way to remember which way to turn bolts and screws to either loosen ('lefty loosey') or tighten ('righty tighty').
