Erotic pleasure is every woman’s birthright, no matter your age, and whether you’re single or in a relationship. Read on for expert advice, from lifestyle basics to mindfulness practices that will help you develop and deepen a loving, sensual connection with yourself and others.

IN a world filled with judgement, exploitation and expectation, many of us experience fear and shame around our own bodies. But it shouldn’t be that way. Want to lay the foundation for fabulous sexuality? Start by taking care of your wellbeing in general.
BACK TO BASICS
PRIORITISE MENTAL AND EMOTIONAL WELLNESS
Sexual health isn’t just physical. As professor of obstetrics and gynaecology Dr Lauren Streicher notes, ‘The brain is the biggest sex organ.’ Get professional help for stress, anxiety, depression, and sexual concerns or dysfunctions. Stress-reducing practices like meditation and self-care rituals are also beneficial.
GET MOVING
Exercise does great things for circulation, hormones, mood and body confidence — all of which do great things for sexual function. Do cardio for blood flow; strength training for testosterone and stamina; and yoga, Pilates or stretching for flexibility. And don’t forget Kegels, the pelvic-floor exercises that keep things tight and raise orgasmic potential.

‘Foods that are good for your heart — fruit, vegetables, wholegrains and healthy fats — are also good for your sex life,’ says Dr Michael Greger, author of How Not to Die. Steer clear of processed foods and trans fats, which reduce blood flow and lower testosterone, and reduce your sugar intake. And put these foods with benefits on your shopping list:
◗ Salmon, walnuts, flaxseed – rich in omega-3 fatty acids to support hormone balance and mood
◗ Berries, spinach, beetroot – high in antioxidants, and good for circulation and stamina
◗ Oysters, pumpkin seed, lean meat – rich in zinc, which plays a crucial role in testosterone production and function
