Six Yards Of Grace

Several hashtags are used to describe her grandiosity, but none seem to justify her magnificence. Often denoted as 'six yards', a saree is simply a saga of eras wrapped over the body. Flowing like a river from our grandmothers and great-grandmothers, it has evolved with us - staying as timeless as existence can be.

Freedom and fabric in a saree variate every hundred miles in a country as diverse as ours. The drapes take inspiration from the culture as well as deep-rooted traditions and customs. However, a saree is not just about implying our cultural beliefs, the demographic and climatic conditions of a place have also been inspiring the drape. Warrior princesses adorned it the dhoti-style and those commanding their royal households wore elaborate, trail versions. Saree in India comes in an assortment of regional weaving and dyeing processes with paithani, benarasi, kanjivaram, gharchola, muga and ikkat being the most loved of all .

An emblem of nationality and pride, it is time and again that saree proves to leave its imprints on fashion. Each season newer variants arrive, expelling six yards of grace.
