LAKE CHARLES is ideal 2-day stopover for Indian visitors

|May - June 2025
Lake Charles in Louisiana is an ideal destination for Indian travellers looking to experience something new in United States as it is packed with a variety of outdoor experiences and also boasts a unique culinary heritage and a lively culture around music, Kyle Edmiston, CEO, Visit Lake Charles tells India Outbound. Edmiston says India has the same potential as China in the pre-pandemic days and that Visit Lake Charles plans to engage proactively with the Indian market.
What is the ‘Spirit of Louisiana’?
The ‘Spirit of Louisiana’ is a combination of four best cities that we believe in. The journey begins in New Orleans, moves to Baton Rouge, then to Lafayette and concludes in Lake Charles. This Itinerary was created to highlight the things that we have in common while showcasing some of the differences as you go across South Louisiana.
The greater emphasis is on culinary experiences, as Louisiana is a place where everyone loves to eat. Here, you can sample a variety of gumbo, savour boudin and explore the unique flavours as you journey across the region.
We also offer a rich musical experience as you travel across the region, from jazz to swamp pop to Zydeco. We believe this diverse musical heritage will truly resonate and continue to thrive.
Thanks to the convenient international flights in and out of New Orleans and the accessibility provided by I-10, each of these cities is just 1-2 hours apart. This allows for quick travel, as you spend less time in the car and more time immersing yourself in the unique cultures and culinary experiences that these four cities have to offer.
How has the response been in the markets where you have launched the campaign?
The response has been great so far. We launched the campaign in Europe less than six months ago and we are already seeing strong demand, with people listing it with tour operators. It is going to take off as we expand this into other markets. We are looking forward to putting it into the Indian market as well.
As Louisiana tries hard to attract Indian visitors, we believe that it fits into what Indian visitors are looking for.
What are the key attractions in Louisiana? What is the USP, especially for Lake Charles, when it comes to Indian visitors?

In many ways, the year 2025 has turned out to be Africa's Year, at least on the international tourism market as the continent outpaced every other region of the world in growth in international tourist arrivals for the first half of the year. The growth seems to have continued in the second half, too, and looks certain to continue into the next year as African nations proactively seek to diversify their source markets, with focus on India and China.
