I'M NOT SURE THERE’S A WORSE FEELING than hating something you're supposed to love. Be it your actual lover, or a new pet, your hometown, a family member, your job, or your house, the failure to love hardens into a particularly panicky and potent type of hate. And it has happened to every one of us in a hotel room. I have shouted, “I hate hotels,” to an empty five-star hotel room. It happened last month; it happens all the time. I'm happy to admit this.
