Spotify is rolling out lossless audio streaming to its Premium subscribers, finally delivering a feature that has been promised since 2021 and long demanded by audiophiles.

SPOTIFY PREMIUM SUBSCRIBERS FINALLY GET LOSSLESS AUDIO AFTER YEARS OF DELAYS

The update puts Spotify on par with rivals such as Apple Music, Tidal, and Amazon Music, all of which have offered high-resolution or lossless options for years.

A FEATURE YEARS IN THE MAKING

Spotify first teased “Spotify HiFi” in early 2021, announcing plans to introduce CD-quality streaming later that year. The feature was delayed repeatedly, as licensing negotiations, technical challenges, and shifting company priorities pushed the launch back. In the meantime, competitors used lossless audio as a differentiator, with Apple Music offering it at no additional cost starting in 2021.

Now, Spotify Premium subscribers worldwide will have access to 16-bit, 44.1 kHz lossless streams, with support for higher bitrates and sample rates on compatible devices. The rollout began this month and is expected to reach all users by early fall.
