Lego has launched a $1 billion factory in Vietnam's Binh Duong province, designed to produce toys without generating greenhouse gas emissions, relying entirely on renewable energy sources, the company announced at a grand opening ceremony attended by local officials and Danish dignitaries.

LEGO OPENS CARBON-NEUTRAL FACTORY IN VIETNAM TO CUT EMISSIONS

This facility marks Lego’s first fully carbon-neutral production site, a milestone in its sustainability journey. For toy enthusiasts, environmental advocates, and industry analysts, this opening showcases a bold step toward eco-friendly manufacturing in a region poised for industrial growth.

The factory, spanning 44 hectares, harnesses solar power from 12,400 rooftop panels and a nearby solar farm, generating enough electricity to match its annual needs. Lego aims to reduce its global carbon footprint with this site, producing bricks for its Asia-Pacific markets while employing over 1,700 workers in its initial phase.

This move aligns with Vietnam's push to attract green investment, bolstered by international climate funding agreements.

imageThis carbon-neutral endeavor reflects Lego’s commitment to sustainable production, targeting a 37% emissions reduction by 2032 across its operations. The factory's advanced design and local workforce training position it as a model for balancing economic development with environmental responsibility in Vietnam's fast-evolving industrial landscape.

SOLAR POWER FUELS VIETNAM FACTORY OPERATIONS

Lego's new Vietnam factory operates entirely on solar energy, powered by 12,400 panels mounted on its roof and a dedicated solar farm adjacent to the site, producing 100% of its electricity needs without fossil fuels. This setup generates sufficient kilowatt-hours to run the facility's high-tech molding machines and packaging lines. The company designed this system to eliminate emissions from its production process, a first among its global plants.
