APPLE RELEASES MACOS TAHOE 26.1 DEVELOPER BETA 2 AMID GROWING USER CRITICISM OVER PERFORMANCE AND STABILITY

Apple has released macOS Tahoe 26. 1 Developer Beta 2, the latest build of its next-generation desktop operating system, expanding the testing cycle ahead of its expected public rollout later this fall.

But while Apple continues refining its Al integration and new interface features, the update comes against a backdrop of mounting criticism from developers and early adopters who say macOS 26 has been one of the most unstable macOS releases in recent years.

A FOCUS ON BUG FIXES AND OPTIMIZATION

According to Apple's developer notes, the new beta primarily focuses on system performance, stability improvements, and memory optimizations. The update follows user complaints that earlier builds of macOS 26 Tahoe suffered from severe memory leaks, especially when running multiple Safari or Final Cut Pro sessions simultaneously.

Apple claims to have addressed several of these issues in Beta 2, particularly those affecting unified memory management on Apple Silicon devices. The company also noted improvements to the Finder, Spotlight, and Continuity features, as well as better compatibility with third-party system extensions.

Developers testing the new build report slightly faster boot times and reduced system freezes under heavy multitasking loads, though anecdotal feedback still describes the OS as “rough around the edges” — a sign that stability concerns remain widespread.
