Sony’s latest generation of headphones offer a well-rounded experience with powerful audio, comfortable fit and a feature-rich app for support. The brand has unveiled the latest noise cancelling headband in their affordable line-up. The WH-CH720N is Sony’s lightest wireless noisecancelling headband ever. Being a lower priced version than Sony’s premium line-up, the obvious compromises from the top-of-theline devices are in the materials, and not necessarily in the audio quality. And we feel that is how it should be done, rather than compromise on everything inside out. Please don’t get us wrong, the build is still sturdy. The headband is wrapped in faux leather and provides a thick-enough padding to keep shiny bald heads comfy and scratch-free. The telescopic band adjustment segments are thinner but have been reinforced with metal strips. The end segments of the headband and the back of the ear cups are moulded from polycarbonate and finished in matte. Although lightweight at 192 grams, the materials don’t feel brittle, and the device look set for a long life if you treat it with respect. The ear cups rotate somewhere around 135 degrees if my eyes are not too unreliable, and tilt about 30 degrees for a comfortable fit. The padding on the ear cups is soft and did not cause sweating in the humid Mumbai summer even in long musical sessions. The headphones do not offer touch controls and hence buttons rule supreme. The left earcup houses the power button along with the 3.5mm aux jack and USB Type-C charging port. On the right are the volume buttons, Play/Pause button and ANC/Ambient selector button.
