A budget workhorse that drives functionality

With the Nord Core Edition 5, OnePlus is attempting to tighten its grip on the budget segment, let's find out if it will succeed. At first glance, the Nord CE5 sticks to the tried and tested OnePlus formula, with best-in-class battery life and charging speeds paired with a smooth software experience. Unfortunately, familiar weaknesses remain, with the camera still delivering only average results and a less than exciting chipset.

This new launch is available in three colours: Nexus Blue, Marble Mist, and Black Infinity. Buyers can choose between 8GB RAM with 128GB or 256GB storage, or 12GB RAM with 256GB storage. For this review, we received the Nexus Blue variant with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage.

Weighing just under 200g, the phone skips glass but doesn't sacrifice a premium feel. A new polycarbonate composite body with a matte finish is delightful to hold and hides its plastic origins well. Nexus Blue is eye catching, while Marble Mist is fast gaining a reputation for being a stunner. Thin bezels and a slim body make it easy to grip. The phone is rated IP65 for dust and water resistance, though some competitors offer a higher rating.
