Slimmer, faster and smarter. But is Samsung's latest attempt at foldables finally ready for the mainstream, or still a niche flex?

Book style foldables have established themselves as a preferred form of foldables and Samsung has had a big role in popularising this concept.

The biggest actually. So it was only ironic that they were being beaten at their own game by newer, more “Asian” counterparts in recent times. The all-new Galaxy Z Fold 7, though, is a direct response to that threat and only proves the adage that competition is good for consumer.

Going back to the drawing board, the engineering team seem to have outdone themselves this time around by shaving off more than 3mm off the thickness of the folded device in a single generation! That's almost like three years of work in one, and the moment you hold the Fold 7 in your hand for the first time, you notice it immediately. But does it live to the lofty goal of being a mainstream power-user phone or still only appeals to wealthy business moguls?

A fresh start
