Medion Erazer Hunter X30

A solid first outing from the German manufacturer, but the price must drop to earn a Recommended award

There are two main routes to buying a gaming PC. The first is to choose a custom-builder such as CyberPowerPC (see p58). Such companies have a base in the UK where they build systems to order, right down to the type of thermal paste. The second is to buy a pre-assembled PC, either from a British manufacturer or familiar names such as Acer and HP. Or less familiar names such as German manufacturer Medion, a division of Lenovo.
This is my first look at its line of Erazer Hunter X30 gaming PCs, and I was immediately struck by its design. Looked at from the front, the lower two-thirds resemble a speaker thanks to the metallic grille, with the top third finished in blackened glass. It arguably looks nicer switched off: when on, the Erazer antler-like logo glows through the top, while the bottom is dominated by two RGB fans. On or off, though, it's attractive, while the chassis is relatively compact at 210mm wide and 445mm tall.
