A great-looking mobile monitor, but it's about £100 too expensive given its resolution and features

- BRANDON HILL

Dell Pro 14 Plus (P1425)

PRICE £219 (£263 inc VAT) from dell.com

This is the second product we've seen after Dell's big rebrand, announced at CES. From now on, all its new professional products will include the name “Pro”, whether it's a monitor, a desktop PC or a laptop. We saw a top-of-the-range Premium model last month in the Dell Pro Premium 13 laptop (see issue 368, p46), and this month is the debut of a Plus product. That is, one that sits in the middle of the range in terms of quality.

If the Dell Pro 14 Plus is anything to go by, they're all going to be good-looking devices. This is a sleek device with a thin, lightweight aluminium chassis that weighs only 570g. Close examination reveals the plastic framing around the matte display (maybe the Premium version would be all metal?), with thick bezels along the top and bottom. And there's no doubt who made it: the Dell logo is featured in the centre of the bottom bezel and again on the back of the display.

A weighted base houses all the controls and ports for the monitor. You'll find a USB-C port on either side, both of which can be connected to a host laptop or smartphone. You may find that your phone doesn't provide enough power (it needs 7W), but there isn't a power brick in the box so you'll need to provide your own.
