What's new in Siri on iPhone

THE NEWLY RELEASED IOS 18.2 is a really big deal, bigger than iOS 18 itself. And that's because at last it brings the new and long-awaited Siri and Apple Intelligence features to your iPhone 15 Pro or later.

While many Apple Intelligence features are stand-alone or app-specific such as Image Playground for creating pictures and Clean Up in Photos - some are system-wide, and of course Siri is available everywhere on your device.

imageiOS 18.2 gives Siri a fresh new look and some extra powers. It's more useful, and there's a handy type-to-talk option that you access with a swift double-tap. But the biggest change is that if you want it to, Siri now integrates with ChatGPT, the artificial intelligence (AI) service.

Apple plans to offer alternatives such as Google's Gemini, as well as its own artificial intelligence. That's expected to be revealed at WWDC 2025, but isn't currently scheduled to launch until 2026. For now, however, ChatGPT is the only AI option available. It's impressive, but also a little slow because your requests have to be sent to and from ChatGPT's own servers.

DEVICE DETAIL

Not all of these features are available to everyone: Apple Intelligence requires an iPhone 15 Pro or any iPhone 16, and on iPad you need an A17 or M-series processor. Apple says older devices don't have the necessary horsepower to deliver a smooth Apple Intelligence experience.
