ULTIMATE COMPARISON

The mid-range smartphone segment in 2024 has become a hotbed of innovation and aggressive competition. Brands are pushing boundaries, offering premium features at prices that are surprisingly accessible. This year, five standout contenders have caught everyone's attention: the Vivo V40e, OnePlus Nord 4, iQ00 Neo 9 Pro, OPPO Reno 12 Pro, and Motorola Edge 50 Pro. With such a competitive lineup, choosing the best mid-range smartphone is no easy task. To crown the ultimate winner, we'll compare these devices across six critical parameters: design, display (including a sunlight test), camera performance, processing power, battery life, and a durability-focused drop test. Let the battle begin!

DESIGN

(Aesthetic Appeal and Build Quality)

Design is the first element that captures attention when considering buying a smartphone, and manufacturers have consistently invested considerable effort into crafting devices that stand out. The Vivo V40e, for instance, features a striking curved endless screen that creates an immersive viewing experience and gives a sense of luxury. However, its aesthetic appeal is somewhat diminished by the use of a shiny plastic frame and rear panel, which, while lightweight, fails to fully convey the elegance expected from such a device.

On the other hand, the OnePlus Nord 4 presents a more practical design with its flat display, characterised by minimal bezels that maximise screen real estate. The robust aluminium frame not only contributes to its modern and sleek appearance but also enhances durability. Nevertheless, while the sturdy build is respected, the device lacks the captivating flair often associated with curved displays and premium materials, leaving it more conventional in design.
