How is Cummins integrating BESS and digital orchestration to enhance genset efficiency and meet India's peak power needs?
Our next-generation generator systems across diesel, gas, and hybrid platforms are designed to support the evolving energy needs of India. In the diesel engine range, Cummins is enhancing fuel economy and power density, improving genset footprint, and lowering the overall carbon footprint. We have also reduced the CAQM products and introduced low-emission solutions that comply with stringent global standards.
Building on this foundation, we have been actively adding Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and integrated microgrid solutions. In practice, batteries handle the fastest transients and shave short peaks (seconds to minutes), while gensets deliver sustained energy and recharge the batteries. This combination reduces genset runtime, fuel consumption, and emissions during daily peaks, particularly valuable in India, where evening and late-afternoon demand surges are rising even as overall grid deficits decline.
Complementing these innovations are our advanced after-treatment systems, remote monitoring capabilities, and precision fuel and DEF level sensors. Together with improved engine efficiency, these features enable gensets to meet tightening emission norms while maintaining high availability for backup and peak duty. This balance is critical for urban and commercial customers who seek to align operational reliability with ESG goals.
