How developer education and AI are redefining partner strategies

How education-led development and real-time AI use cases are shaping the future of tech partnerships through smarter architecture and developer-first strategies
Tim Berglund, VP, Developer Relations, Confluent and Rohit Vyas, Director, Solution Engineering, Confluent India, share a perspective that rarely gets discussed openly in the partner ecosystem: developer empathy as the cornerstone of long-term partner growth. In an age where marketing buzz dominates the boardroom, they argue, it's the hands-on practitioner, the developer, who ends up influencing architectural decisions. What emerges is a narrative about going beyond enablement and building a bridge that connects curiosity, code and customer value.
Why teaching is more powerful than selling
Most software vendors talk about partner enablement. Few turn that into an operational model. Fewer still commit to educating developers who aren't even their direct customers. That's where Confluent seems to have taken a bold stance.
By building a dedicated team for developer education and community engagement, the focus is not just on driving adoption but on raising the baseline understanding of event-driven architecture itself. Partners, especially those in the early stages of working with Apache Kafka and similar platforms, are given foundational and advanced-level resources, often free of cost.
This approach serves two purposes. It introduces technology in an approachable, structured way. More importantly, it positions partners as thought leaders in front of their own clients. When partners can articulate why a streaming-first model matters and how to implement it, they naturally become more valuable.
It’s less about certifications and more about confidence.
