THE NEW HABITS RESHAPING THE FUTURE OF THE INTERNET

Social Search

TikTok, Instagram, and Reddit are evolving from engagement hubs into powerful search tools. This transformation, driven by changing consumer behaviors and technological advancements, redefines how users discover information, products, and brands. With the rise of AI and platforms like X, it’s clear that Google’s time at the top could soon be up.

imageTHE RISE OF SOCIAL SEARCH

According to Sprout Social, 41% of users leverage TikTok for search while 76% have discovered brands through social media. What’s more, the integration of artificial intelligence into social search is poised to disrupt traditional search engines like Google and Yahoo even further, with platforms like X.com emerging as potential leaders in this convergence of social, AI, and search functionalities.

imageSocial search has transformed platforms once known for entertainment into primary destinations for information and discovery. A 2024 Forbes Advisor and Talker Research survey of 2,000 Americans revealed that 24% use social media as their primary search tool, with 46% of Gen Z and 35% of Millennials favoring platforms like TikTok and Instagram over Google. Gen Z is 25% less likely to use Google for searches compared to Gen X, with only 64% using search engines for brand discovery versus 94% of Baby Boomers. Meanwhile, 57% of users turn to YouTube for information, rivaling Google’s dominance. These statistics outline a generational shift toward platforms offering quick, visually engaging, and authentic content.
