MICROSOFT UNVEILS ITS FIRST IN-HOUSE AI IMAGE GENERATOR
AppleMagazine
|October 17, 2025
Microsoft has officially launched its first proprietary Al image generator, marking a significant step in the company's efforts to bring creative generative tools directly under its own brand.
-
The new image generator was developed internally by Microsoft engineers and researchers, setting it apart from the company's earlier reliance on partner technologies like OpenAl's DALL-E.
MICROSOFT BUILDS ITS OWN CREATIVE ENGINE
The new Al system, unveiled quietly this week, represents the next phase of Microsoft's growing investment in homegrown Al models. Rather than licensing existing generative models, Microsoft has built a fully integrated image creation platform capable of producing complex, high-resolution visuals using natural language prompts.
According to company officials, the tool is being developed to power a range of Microsoft products — from Copilot in Word, PowerPoint, and Designer to enterprise creative tools in Azure Al Studio. This marks the first time Microsoft has deployed a visual Al model developed entirely in-house.
The model supports image generation, editing, and style transfer, giving users control over lighting, texture, and artistic tone. It's optimized for low latency, enabling fast image production directly within Microsoft's productivity suite without requiring external API calls to partner systems.
A STRATEGIC SHIFT TOWARD SELF-RELIANCE
For the past two years, Microsoft has relied heavily on OpenAl’s technologies, integrating models like GPT and DALL-E into its Copilot ecosystem. But the launch of an internal image generator signals a strategic shift toward independence— one that gives the company more flexibility over product design, cost management, and data handling.
