FOLDABLE IPHONE TIPPED TO LAUNCH IN 2026, WITH 7.8-INCH DISPLAY
AppleMagazine
|July 25, 2025
Apple is reportedly preparing to enter the foldable smartphone market with a long-rumored foldable iPhone projected to launch in 2026, according to a new supply chain report.
-
The device is expected to feature a 7.8-inch display, positioning it as a direct competitor to Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold series and other large-format foldables. The initial price point is anticipated to be around $2,000, placing it at the high end of the premium device segment.
While Apple has yet to confirm any details publicly, multiple sources in the display and component supply chain indicate that the tech giant is accelerating development of its first foldable device, following years of research, patent filings, and internal testing.
A NEW FORM FACTOR FOR THE IPHONEThe foldable iPhone is expected to adopt a book-style folding design, similar to that of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, featuring a main internal display that unfolds into a small tablet, along with a secondary external screen for use when the device is closed.
According to reports from industry sources in South Korea and Taiwan, the primary display will measure approximately 7.8 inches when unfolded, using flexible OLED technology developed by Samsung Display and LG Display. Apple is reportedly working closely with both suppliers to refine crease reduction, durability, and color performance standards that meet its premium quality benchmarks.
The external cover screen, which may measure between 5.4 and 6.1 inches, is designed for quick tasks such as messaging, calling, and app navigation without requiring users to unfold the device.
