DOLBY VISION 2 IS COMING, BUT YOUR TV ISN'T OBSOLETE JUST YET

Dolby Laboratories is preparing to launch Dolby Vision 2, the next generation of its premium high dynamic range (HDR) format, promising sharper contrast, more accurate colors, and improved performance on future displays.
-
The news has already sparked questions among consumers who have invested in high-end televisions: will today’s Dolby Vision-certified screens soon feel outdated?
The answer, according to Dolby and industry experts, is not yet. While Dolby Vision 2 introduces technical advancements aimed at next-generation panels and content production, current devices will continue to support the vast library of Dolby Vision content already available—and most consumers won't feel left behind anytime soon.
WHAT IS DOLBY VISION 2?
Dolby Vision has been one of the leading HDR standards since its introduction in 2014, rivaling formats like HDR10 and HDR10+. It enhances video by dynamically adjusting brightness, color, and contrast scene by scene (or even frame by frame), producing richer images than standard HDR.
Dolby Vision 2 builds on that foundation. Industry insiders suggest the update will expand color volume and peak brightness targets, better align with advanced display technologies like microLED and QD-OLED, and improve rendering for 8K and high-frame-rate video. Dolby is also expected to integrate more advanced metadata systems, giving content creators finer control over how films and shows appear on different screens.
