AN UNHAPPY Kevin Maher stressed he did not want Southend AM United to be labelled unlucky losers following their heartbreaking defeat Charlton Athletic at Roots Hall.

Addicks substitute Gassan Ahadme bagged a dramatic winning goal in the final seconds of extra-time.

And Shrimpers boss Maher was clearly hurting at the final whistle.

"I hate losing and I hate losing in that manner," said Maher.

"I hate pats on the back for being unlucky losers.

"I'm fuming because we're out and the performance certainly didn't deserve that

"I hate it but when I do look back at it I'll be proud of the players for how we played.

We looked like the team who created more chances and I don't think we've really been opened up.
