KELLY WATERS has admitted it felt like an 'anti-climax' after AFC Whyteleafe were finally promoted to the Isthmian League after over a month waiting to discover their fate.
The Surrey side were crowned Premier Division South champions on Wednesday after three-point deductions to title rivals Jersey Bulls, who initially won the league on Easter Saturday, and Redhill were upheld on appeal.
After all the uncertainty, Leafe now get to enjoy the championship — albeit belatedly and with pre-season for their switch to Step 4 just three weeks away.
They missed out on the chance to lift the trophy on a matchday in front of their fans but chairman and joint-manager Waters now expects to arrange a promotion party, just two weeks after they lost 2-1 to Whitstable Town at Wembley in the final of the FA Vase.
He told The NLP: “It is a bit of an anti-climax. We have missed out on the enjoyment of celebrating the title with our fans, so it’s a shame in that sense.
