GOALKEEPER Ben Winterbottom was the AFC Fylde hero as they notched a vital win over fellow relegation candidates Wealdstone to earn their first win since the start of December.

New signing Ashley Boatswain celebrated his first start for the Coasters by handing them a 61st minute lead before top scorer Nick Haughton produced a fine finish with nine minutes left to wrap up three valuable points.

Boatswain capped a fine home debut with his first senior goal and has become an instant Mill Farm favourite since joining on loan from Ipswich Town.

"All this week I've been manifesting in my head that I'm going to score," the 19-year-old told The NLP.

"I think this game was a great building step for me and I can only envisage it getting better and better."

And manager Kevin Phillips had nothing but praise for his new arrival. "I'm delighted for him - you can see how much of an asset he will be for us and his work rate was brilliant," he said.
