WHEN CANADA reached the Women's World Cup final, it was history-making.

After crushing one of the most dominant teams of all time in the Black Ferns, everyone was talking about the Canucks’ power and flair. But the story of how Canada’s women even made it to the startline is just as big a story.

Despite being ranked second in the world, and even though the likes of Emily Tuttosi and Alex Tessier have been excelling in the PWR, Canada’s women’s side is not professional. As RW reported in a pre-tournament feature, they launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise a million dollars to help pay for travel and training preparation. Their campaign message was unambiguous: win Rugby World Cup 2025.
