In golf, just like in life, your mindset makes a significant difference. The concept of a growth mindset was introduced by the American psychologist Dr. Carol Dweck. This perspective emphasizes the belief that skills can improve through effort, learning and persistence. People with this mindset tend to grow more-both on the course and in daily life.

A fixed mindset, on the other hand, takes the opposite view: it assumes that talent is something you're either born with or not. In this view, mistakes are seen as proof that you simply lack ability.

On the golf course, after a missed putt, the difference in mindset becomes clear:

• A golfer with a fixed mindset thinks: "I'm a bad putter-maybe I'm just not cut out for golf."

• A golfer with a growth mindset asks: “What can I learn from this to improve my putting?”
