THE LAST FEW YEARS POST-PANDEMIC HAS SEEN GOLF GATHER POPULARITY. WHAT HAVE YOU SEEN IN TERMS OF GROWTH IN THE LAST TWO YEARS?
The last two years have indeed seen significant growth in golf participation and interest in the region. Many people took up golf during the pandemic as it was one of the few outdoor activities that allowed for social distancing. Post-pandemic, this interest has continued, with more beginners and youngsters joining the sports. As travel restrictions eased, the region has seen a rebound in golf tourism.
Countries like Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam are popular destinations, attracting international golfers to world-class courses. The region has hosted more professional and amateur tournaments, drawing attention to local talent and inspiring new players. Golf has regained its position as a preferred activity for business networking and corporate events, boosting foot traffic at clubs and resorts.
WHAT DEVELOPMENTS, IMPROVEMENTS, ENHANCEMENT HAVE YOU DONE AT KOTA PERMAI RECENTLY?
Kota Permai Golf & Country Club has made significant enhancements in recent years to maintain its status as one of Asia's premier golf destinations. These improvements span across its golf course, clubhouse and recreational facilities.
The Ross Watson-designed course continues to be meticulously maintained, offering super-fast greens and a challenging risk reward layout. Course conditions are constantly refined to meet international tournament standards, with green speeds exceeding 10.5 on the Stimpmeter for daily play and up to 11.5 during tournaments.
Course improvements we've made include renovation of bunkers, installation of subsoil drainage and landscape enhancement. These upgrades ensure Kota Permai a popular venue for high profile tournaments such as The Malaysian Open sanctioned by Asian Tour and Toyota Tour Championship co-sanctioned by Asian Development Tour (ADT).
