A review of the new luxury crossover from Chinese carmaker, Zeekr.

FIND AND ZEEKR

Recently, the news has reported that a lot of European and American car manufactures are having real problems in their switch to Electric Vehicles (EV). And that's no surprise.

The roll out of the EV is fraught with some huge obstacles. First, there's the lack of infrastructure as swapping out petrol for charging stations is proving to be a difficult and costly endeavor for most countries. Then, there is the maintenance and price issues, which have caused other adoption problems. However, there is one country that is thriving on EVs - China. The country realized years ago it had a challenge taking on conventional car builds, but the EV market was wide open. So, that's what they concentrated on. Today, China is the undisputed king of EVs with over 200 EV manufacturers.

imageOne Chinese EV sending shock waves through the industry is the new Zeekr X. The bizarrely named car company, Zeekr, was only founded in 2021 by Chinese giant Geely, one of the country's premium electric carmakers. Geely also happens to own Volvo, Polestar, Lotus, and Smart car brands, to name a few. As the company literature explains about the car: “The Zeekr X is a global premium compact SUV created for urban lifestyles and the megacities of today - compact on the outside while spacious and luxurious inside, it is the perfect companion for adventurers seeking new challenges and new environments to explore.” While we're not sure about the “adventurers” part, it does seem like the perfect vehicle for the tiny island of Singapore.

The new Zeekr X is based on versions of Geely's Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) platform, with the X crossover sharing its underpinnings with cars like the Volvo EX30. It has all the bells and whistles you'd expect in a luxury car, and then some.
