The much-awaited Champions Trophy (CT) 2025 cricket tournament will kick off on February 19 with a game between Pakistan, co-hosts and defending champions, and New Zealand. The mega one-day international (ODI) contest has been in the headlines for several controversies for months, and now the supporters are keenly awaiting an in-field start. India, who won the tournament in 2013 and were join winners in 2002, will be playing their matches in the United Arab Emirates since they have decided not to travel to Pakistan due to security reasons. Led by Rohit Sharma, India have been clubbed with Pakistan, Bangladesh and New Zealand in Group A and the top two point-getters will advance to the semi-finals. Group B has Australia, England, Afghanistan and South Africa. The semi-finals will be held in Dubai and Lahore on March 4 and 5, respectively. The final will be played in either Lahore or Dubai on March 9, depending on India's position. The high-voltage clash between arch-rivals India and Pakistan will also take place in Dubai on February 23.

The CT started in 1998 when Bangladesh hosted the inaugural edition. Till 2006, it was held regularly after every two years. Starting from the 2009 edition held in South Africa, it was held every four years till 2017. There were calls to scrap the tournament at a time, but it was decided later that the CT would be revived. Pakistan was initially announced as the sole host for the 2025 edition, but after India refused to travel there, the UAE was added as a neutral venue.
