The appointment of Rahul Dravid as head coach in November 2021 was met with anticipation and optimism. Dravid, renowned for his steely resolve and astute cricketing acumen during his playing days, was expected to bring a new era of success and innovation to the team. However, as time has passed, questions have emerged regarding the effectiveness of Dravid's coaching methods.
Despite his illustrious pedigree, Dravid's tenure as coach has been marred by a lack of significant achievements, with the team failing to secure major trophies and enduring numerous defeats. Criticism has been mainly aimed at Dravid's reluctance to introduce fresh talent into the squad, leading to concerns of stagnation and conservatism within the team's approach.
As the debate rages on, one cannot help but wonder: Is the Rahul Dravid way of coaching primitive and boring, or is it simply a matter of time before his methods bear fruit?
When assessing Dravid's coaching tenure, one cannot overlook the dearth of notable achievements. Apart from the Asia Cup triumph in 2023, India's success under Dravid has been scarce. The team has suffered too many defeats with no major trophies to boast of. Despite the talent at his disposal, Dravid has largely stuck with the same set of players, failing to introduce fresh faces into the squad.
