The Lucknow Super Giants made history at the Indian Premier League 2025 mega auction after getting hold of Team India star Rishabh Pant for Rs. 27 crore. LSG went head over heels for Pant after having released KL Rahul, who led the side for three seasons. Pant, who wasn’t retained by the Delhi Capitals, saw a massive race unfold for him at the bidding table. LSG broke the record of Punjab Kings, who bought Shreyas Iyer for Rs. 26.75 crore at the same auction held in Jeddah.

Ahead of the auction, LSG had retained a total of 5 players. They kept hold of Ravi Bishnoi, Mohsin Khan, Mayank Yadav, Nicholas Pooran and Ayush Badoni. So, a basic structure of the team was already set as to how LSG wanted to go about things. The addition of Pant, who is set to lead the side, adds a lot of dimension.
