5 REASONS WHY PUNJAB KINGS WILL STRUGGLE IN IPL 2025

Punjab Kings will once again need to start from the scratch. This is a side who often goes for a complete overhaul during the Indian Premier League auctions and then try to build again only for them to repeat the process. An underperforming side in the cash-rich league, Punjab have reached the playoffs twice since 2008. Ahead of the IPL 2025 auction, they went on to retain just two players ahead in Prabhsimran Singh and Shashank Singh. At the auction, they used the RTM card for star pacer Arshdeep Singh. They also signed back an utility player in Harpreet Brar. Barring these four players, PBKS have a new look altogether.

Shreyas Iyer saw Punjab go all out for him. A sum of Rs. 26.75 crore was spent on the Indian batter, who was with Kolkata Knight Riders. Yuzvendra Chahal was a solid buy for Rs. 18 crore. So another clean slate for PBKS and a wipe off of sorts. Can this bode well for them this season? Here are 5 reasons why PBKS could struggle in IPL 2025.

imageBATTING IS THEIR BIGGEST WEAKNESS

Batting seems to be an issue for Punjab. Given they went so heavy on pace, their batting was overlooked. A lack of depth in the ranks means they have issues to sort. PBKS will go in with uncapped Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya. The latter is only 18 T20s old. To play seasoned international stars will be difficult. Shreyas is their only reliable force when you talk of consistency. Lack of depth means PBKS would be forced to play a bulk of their all-rounders. And these players need to dig in and bring value. PBKS lack depth on the bench. Josh Inglis is their only recognised foreign recruit. Vishnu Vinod lacks bite as well. Nehal Wadhera, who is the side's probable impact player, is yet to make giant strides.
