Meet social media's science sensation.
-

Since 2022, Big Manny (real name Emanuel Wallace) has been performing science experiments on social media. What makes Manny’s videos different from other science content is that he uses everyday words and phrases that young people use in conversation to explain what he is doing. His videos are very popular, and he now has 1.6 million followers on Instagram and 1.8 million on TikTok.
Breaking down barriers
Manny’s videos are mainly designed to help GCSE students with their studies, homework and exams. He tells The Week Junior Science+Nature that his narration style helps students understand his experiments because it’s the kind of language they use themselves. “It’s quite a relaxed tone, as if it’s being delivered by a friend or a family member,” says Manny. “I feel like it breaks down the barrier between the teacher and student.”
