Known as the astronomy capital of the world, the Tucson area boasts the world’s largest collection of research telescopes and is home to the University of Arizona, the world’s leading university for space science.

In 2022, the University of Arizona ranked in the top 20 in research expenditures among all public universities, according to the National Science Foundation. In fiscal year 2023, the university reached $954 million in annual research activity, placing it among the top 4% of public universities in the nation.
