Can You Get Music on the Moon?

June 2025

This is the latest in a series from the author (Sheila Kanani) and illustrator (Liz Kay) behind Can You Get Rainbows in Space? and Can You Get Jellyfish in Space? With bright colours, energetic drawings and informal descriptions, it's likely to be as appealing to children as the previous books.

Can You Get Music on the Moon?

Although the title raises the possibility of lunar music, we don't reach the Moon until towards the end of the book. First, we learn about the physics behind the generation and transmission of sound waves, and the different ways those waves travel by means of reflection, refraction and diffraction. The book explores topics relating to sounds in the natural world and how species produce and detect sound in a variety of ways and for different purposes.
