Retraction and confusion?

SENATE President Pro Tempore Ping Lacson is absolutely right. The 18 former Marines and soldiers alleging P805 billion as payoff to public officials, including President Bongbong Marcos and former House Speaker Martin Romualdez, seemed primed to turn the Senate probe into a circus.

Many are not convinced by their "incredible" claim that they distributed P1.23 trillion in kickbacks from the huge flood control scam, distributed in several suitcases in just three years! Did they think the Senate minority would be blind to what Lacson called "an insult to the intelligence of the Filipinos"?

The Department of Justice should directly conduct a probe and scrutinize everything. Lacson, as chairman of the Blue Ribbon Committee, also stated that he may open a full investigation into the "unbelievable" statements.

For many, it has become quite obvious that the Duterte camp is behind this charade. In all probability, it was also meant to derail the upcoming Senate impeachment trial of VP Sarah Duterte.

No one really believes the blatant and almost laughable smear against the ICC, which was allegedly bribed with $2 million by former senator Antonio Trillanes.

Only six of the 18 suspects in the fatal fraternity hazing of 19-year-old Mark Kenneth Alcedo in Dasmariñas, Cavite, are in police custody since the brutal killing of the victim last March 1. The suspects are all members of the Tau Gamma Phi Fraternity of the Philippine Nautical & Technology Institute (PNTI).

The father of the victim has filed criminal charges against 15 of the identified suspects and demanded that the fraternity surrender the 12 still at large.
