Trinity coach throws down play-offs gauntlet after 'missed opportunity'

Daryl Powell has challenged Wakefield Trinity to prove they are worthy of a playoff place after missing the opportunity to cement sixth spot in a damaging defeat to neighbours Castleford Tigers.

Trinity were highly fancied to open up a three-point lead over seventh-placed Hull FC, only to succumb to a fired-up Castleford at Wheldon Road. Wakefield's one-point advantage remains intact thanks to a favour from Hull KR in Sunday's Craven Park derby but Powell was left to rue a potentially costly slip.

"This was a missed opportunity," said Powell, whose side host Rovers on Saturday before finishing the season at Salford Red Devils. If we're going to play like that then you can forget it. We're not going to be in the playoffs.
