Tomatoes a joy to pick from the vine

Cobs of sweet corn can make a tasty starter to dinner from mid-August if the seeds are sown singly in pots under cover in March and planted out in May.

However, the harvesting starts later from outdoor sowing in April.

Because they are wind pollinated, we plant them in a block formation and expect two large cobs from each plant. So, a square of five x five plants will deliver 50 cobs over several weeks. Good value for a packet of seed costing £2.50.
