Nobody tell movie legend Steven Spielberg, who created the man-eating monster of the deep in Jaws, but sharks are beautiful creatures that keep the ocean ecosystem running and rarely attack humans.

Shark Awareness Day is today (Monday) and aims to both dispel the fear, stigma and misinformation surrounding sharks and also raise awareness of the creature’s plight.

Many species are classed as threatened or critically endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature. That has serious implications.
