Italy but Disney princess style - uncovering an amazing hotel

Yorkshire Evening Post

|

June 16, 2025

A sleepy white-washed village, winding streets filled with the heady scent of jasmine, vibrant bougainvillea providing the only splash of colour in a scene sound-tracked by the hum of bees and the chirping of crickets.

Italy but Disney princess style - uncovering an amazing hotel

This is Puglia in the summer time-the über exclusive Borgo Egnazia hotel, to be precise, in the heart of this gorgeous region which is emerging from the glamorous shadow of the Amalfi Coast and Tuscany.

It is, however, no ordinary Italian hamlet. The entire site is in fact a 250-bed hotel, built in a village style in 2005 on a 40-acre plot. It's in the style of a traditional borgo but with a few must-have add-ons. Essentials such as a championship golf club, spa, two beach clubs and a Michelin-starred restaurant.

This is Italy, Disney princess style. And it's the subject of the latest episode of Amazing Hotels: Life Beyond the Lobby, the BBC2 series that goes behind the scenes at some of the most extraordinary hotels in the world.

The irrepressible Rob Rinder and TV chef Monica Galetti don't just stretch out on the sun loungers to experience what the hotels have to offer, they roll up their sleeves and live life as one of the team. In this case, that involves a mix of porter duties and dance therapy for Rob while Monica discovers what it means to be a local advisor, Borgo Egnazia style.
