Holwill battles through pain barrier to complete Ironman in Leeds

North Leeds athlete Euan Holwill is delighted to have completed the Leeds Ironman triathlon five years after starting training, first in cycling and then in swimming and running, writes JAMES BOVINGTON.

"I signed up last December and have fitted in two daily training sessions since," explained Holwill. "I did the Leeds marathon in May and previously marathons in Manchester and York.

"I had marathon block in my legs so ramped up my cycling and relied on early morning swims at Roundhay Park lake."

A London University graduate who lives in Cookridge, Holwill enjoyed participating in a small triathlon after Covid and after competing in several more, made Ironman his ambition.
