At the end of the second season of lavish period drama created by Downton Abbey scribe Julian Fellowes, Bertha Russell (Carrie Coon) exerted her influence over late 19th-century New York.

Her Harvard-educated son, Larry (Harry Richardson), shared a tender kiss with Marian Brook (Louisa Jacobson), penniless ward of ‘old money’ rivals Agnes van Rhijn (Christine Baranski) and her sister Ada Brook (Cynthia Nixon).

Relationships take centre stage in season three.

Marian is in a swoon from that kiss while tension is evident between siblings Agnes and Ada now the latter holds the purse strings.

Peggy Scott (Denee Benton) follows her heart and creative ambitions but the formidable Elizabeth Kirkland (Phylicia Rashad) is determined to intervene in the young woman's affairs.
