Ex-lord mayor's £1m home seized by NCA after ruling

A former Lord Mayor of Leeds who tried to buy a £1m mansion using funds routed through what has been described as a 'black market' transfer system has lost her fight to keep the property, the National Crime Agency (NCA) said.

Abigail Marshall Katung agreed to buy the luxury home in Sandmoor Drive, Alwoodley from the previous owner in 2015, the NCA said, paying a £400,000 deposit of the £1m price tag to a businessman who later suspected of money laundering.

But the sitting Labour Party councillor, who represents the Little London and Woodhouse ward, never completed the purchase.

Now, the NCA has won full ownership of the house following a ruling by the High Court.
